What they do
Rigetti Computing designs and builds superconducting quantum processors and operates them through its Quantum Cloud Services platform. It is one of the few full-stack players that fabricates its own chips in an in-house foundry, giving it tight control over the hardware development loop.
Listed on the NASDAQ since 2022, Rigetti pursues a modular, multi-chip scaling strategy intended to grow qubit counts while improving fidelity, and works with government and enterprise partners on early applications.
Strengths & weaknesses
- +Owns an in-house superconducting chip foundry — rare vertical integration
- +Fast gate speeds inherent to the superconducting modality
- +Modular multi-chip approach targets a practical scaling path
- –Superconducting qubits require dilution-refrigerator cooling and have limited connectivity
- –Smaller cash reserves than several rivals, raising financing pressure
- –Historically volatile qubit-quality metrics between chip generations
- !Ongoing losses and potential equity dilution to fund the roadmap
- !Execution risk on the multi-chip fidelity targets
